Magnets, magnetic field and field lines sheet3-mark answer frameWhat is a magnetic field? Write three properties of magnetic field lines and draw the field lines around a bar magnet.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Define the field. The magnetic field is the region around a magnet in which its force can be felt, for example by a compass needle.
- 2 · Property 1. Outside the magnet, field lines go from the north pole to the south pole.
- 3 · Property 2. Two field lines never cross each other.
- 4 · Property 3. Field lines are crowded near the poles, where the field is strongest.
- 5 · Draw the field lines. [Sketch: rectangle marked N and S; 6 to 8 curved lines from N to S on both sides; arrows from N to S]
Scoring tip: Put an arrow on every line, pointing from N to S outside the magnet. Lines without arrows lose the drawing mark.
