Draw a labelled diagram of the human female reproductive system. Describe the events from fertilisation to the birth of a baby.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in one line. The female reproductive system makes eggs and holds the growing baby until birth.
2 · Name the organs. Ovaries (eggs, oestrogen and progesterone), fallopian tubes (fertilisation), uterus (where the embryo grows), cervix and vagina.
3 · Fertilisation. An egg released from the ovary meets a sperm in the fallopian tube; their nuclei fuse to form a zygote.
4 · Implantation and growth. The zygote divides into a ball of cells, implants in the thick uterus wall, and grows as an embryo, then a foetus, for about 280 days.
5 · Birth. Oxytocin from the posterior pituitary makes the uterus contract, and the baby is born.
6 · Draw the system. [Diagram: ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina; mark where fertilisation and implantation happen]
7 · Link to daily life. Regular check-ups and a nutritious diet in pregnancy keep both mother and baby healthy.
8 · Close in one line. So a single zygote grows, step by step, into a new human being.
Scoring tip: Write that fertilisation happens in the fallopian tube, not the uterus; it is a common error.
