How seasons shape farming, festivals, food and clothing sheet
3-mark answer frame

How do the seasons influence farming, festivals and food in India? Give an example of each.

How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.

  1. 1 · Open in one line. India's social and cultural life follows the cycle of seasons.
  2. 2 · Farming. Kharif crops are sown with the monsoon and harvested after it; rabi crops grow in winter; zaid crops at the end of winter.
  3. 3 · Festivals. Many festivals mark harvests: Pongal, Lohri and Makar Sankranti in January, Baisakhi at the wheat harvest, Onam in Kerala, and Dussehra and Diwali after the monsoon.
  4. 4 · Food and clothing. Winter brings woollens and energy-rich foods like groundnuts; summer brings mangoes, cool drinks and cotton clothes.
  5. 5 · Close in one line. So the seasons shape what we grow, eat, wear and celebrate.

Scoring tip: Give one example for each part: farming, festival and food. A list without examples gets only part of the marks.
