How do location, distance from the sea and mountain ranges influence the climate of India? Give an example of each.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in one line. India's climate depends on several factors; three important ones are location, distance from the sea and mountain ranges.
2 · Location. Places near the Equator are hotter. South of the Tropic of Cancer, India is tropical; north of it, subtropical. Andhra Pradesh is hotter than Haryana.
3 · Distance from the sea. The sea keeps coastal places equable, like Mumbai. Places far inland, like Delhi, have an extreme climate.
4 · Mountain ranges. The Himalayas block cold Central Asian winds and make the monsoon winds shed rain in India. The Western Ghats give heavy rain to their western slopes.
5 · Close in one line. So the climate of India varies from place to place.
Scoring tip: One factor, one example: that is how each mark is given. Name a real place in every example.
