Classify roads in India on the basis of the authority that builds and maintains them. Add a note on the super highways.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in one line. Roads in India are built and maintained by different authorities, using public money.
2 · Village and district roads. Village roads link villages with each other and with main roads; they are built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. District roads, built by the Zila Parishad, link district headquarters with towns.
3 · State highways. Built and maintained by the State Public Works Department, they link the state capital with district headquarters.
4 · National highways. Built by the National Highways Authority of India, they link state capitals and big cities; they are a small share of road length but carry a large share of traffic.
5 · Border roads. The Border Roads Organisation builds roads in border areas for defence and for local people.
6 · Super highways. The Golden Quadrilateral joins Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata; the North-South Corridor runs from Srinagar to Kanniyakumari and the East-West Corridor from Silchar to Porbandar.
7 · Close in one line. Together they form a network from the village to the border.
Scoring tip: Name the authority for each type of road; that is what earns the mark. End with the three super highways and their end points.
