Explain how Articles 25 to 28 secure freedom of religion in India.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open with secularism. India is a secular state with no religion of its own; Articles 25 to 28 give freedom of religion to all, including foreigners.
2 · Conscience and practice (Article 25). Everyone may profess, practise and propagate religion, subject to public order, morality and health; forced conversion and cruel practices like sati are not allowed.
3 · Religious affairs (Article 26). Religious groups may manage their own affairs and run religious and charitable institutions and property.
4 · No religious tax (Article 27). No one can be forced to pay a tax used to promote one religion.
5 · Religious instruction (Article 28). No religious instruction in institutions wholly funded by the State; in State-recognised or aided institutions, no student can be made to attend it without consent.
6 · Close in one line. So people of all faiths can live together with equal freedom.
Scoring tip: Start with the word secular and give the four provisions in Article order.
