  1. 1 · Open with the office. The President is the Head of the State and is elected indirectly, not directly by the people.
  2. 2 · Name the Electoral College. It has the elected members of both Houses of Parliament, of the State Legislative Assemblies, and of the Assemblies of Delhi and Puducherry.
  3. 3 · State the method. Voting is by secret ballot, by proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.
  4. 4 · Give two qualifications. The candidate must be a citizen of India and at least 35 years old.
    • Also: qualified to be elected to the Lok Sabha
    • Also: holds no office of profit
  5. 5 · Close with the term. The President is elected for five years and can be re-elected.
