Describe the major steps taken for the empowerment of women in India.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open with the basis. The Constitution promises gender equality and allows positive discrimination for women.
2 · Economic steps. Anti-poverty programmes for women, training for women farmers, labour laws, social security and creches.
3 · Social steps. Equal education for girls, a holistic approach to health and nutrition, and ending violence against women.
4 · Political steps. One-third of local body seats for women (73rd and 74th Amendments), and a 2023 amendment for one-third of Lok Sabha and assembly seats.
5 · Close in one line. Laws alone are not enough; attitudes in families must change too.
Scoring tip: Use the three headings economic, social and political. One example under each makes a clean 3-mark answer.
