Draw a labelled diagram of the female reproductive system. Describe the structure of the oviduct and the uterus.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Introduce in one line. The female reproductive system has a pair of ovaries, a pair of oviducts, the uterus, cervix, vagina and external genitalia, along with a pair of mammary glands.
2 · Ovaries. Primary sex organs, about 2 to 4 cm long; they make ova and steroid hormones; the stroma has a cortex and a medulla.
3 · Oviduct. About 10 to 12 cm long: the infundibulum with fimbriae collects the ovum; the ampulla is the site of fertilisation; the isthmus joins the uterus.
4 · Uterus. An inverted pear-shaped womb with a wall of perimetrium, myometrium and endometrium; it opens through the cervix into the vagina.
5 · Draw the system. [Diagram: ovary, fimbriae, infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, uterus with three wall layers, cervix, cervical canal, vagina]
6 · Close in one line. So the ovary makes the egg, the oviduct hosts fertilisation, and the uterus holds the growing baby.
Scoring tip: Show the three wall layers of the uterus on one side of your diagram. It saves writing and earns the label marks.
