- 1 · Open in two lines. Besides weaving, knitting and non-woven methods, fabrics can be braided, netted, made as lace, cast as films or tufted.
- 2 · Braid and net.
- Braid: three or more yarns interlaced diagonally; shoelaces, trims.
- Net: knotted or twisted open mesh; fishing and mosquito nets.
- 3 · Lace. Openwork with motifs on a net ground, made by looping, twisting or knotting; Narsapur crochet lace, machine raschel lace.
- 4 · Film. Polymer sheet without fibres; PVC tablecloths, raincoats, artificial leather.
- 5 · Draw a tufted fabric. [Sketch: yarn loops punched through a base fabric, some cut and some looped, with a latex layer underneath]
- 6 · Daily-life link. PVC-coated table covers wipe clean; nets protect stored food; tufted mats need regular cleaning.
- 7 · Close in one line. Each method gives a special structure for trims, mesh, decoration, waterproofing or pile.
