List and explain the mandatory labelling requirements for pre-packaged foods under FSSAI.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in two lines. A label is the buyer's main source of information. FSSAI's Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020 make certain items mandatory on pre-packaged food.
2 · Draw a sample label. [Diagram: a biscuit pack front and back with name, veg symbol, net weight, FSSAI logo and number on the front; ingredients, nutrition table, additives, allergens, address, batch and dates on the back]
3 · Identity items.
Name of the food.
Veg or non-veg symbol.
FSSAI logo and licence number.
4 · Content items.
Ingredients in descending order.
Nutrition information.
Additives with INS numbers.
Allergen declaration.
5 · Quantity, source and dates.
Net quantity; name and address of maker.
Lot or batch number.
Use by/Expiry date (Best before optional).
Country of origin for imports; instructions for use.
6 · General rules. English or Hindi; clear and not misleading; principal display panel; claims must meet FSSAI rules; a false label makes food misbranded.
7 · For a dietitian. The nutrition panel and allergen line guide food choice for diabetic, renal and allergic patients.
8 · Close in one line. A complete, honest label protects the buyer's health and makes every batch traceable.
Scoring tip: Number the label items 1 to 13 and add a biscuit-pack example to each. A neat drawn label earns marks on its own.
