Layout of a research report sheet10-mark answer frameDescribe the layout of a research report.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Open in two lines. The layout is the order in which the parts of a report are arranged. It has three parts.
- 2 · Draw the outline. [Box chart: preliminary pages → main text → end matter, with the items under each]
- 3 · Preliminary pages.
- Title page, certificate, declaration, acknowledgement.
- Table of contents, list of tables and figures, abstract.
- 4 · Main text: first chapters.
- Introduction: background, objectives, hypotheses, scope, limitations.
- Review of literature: earlier studies and the gap.
- Methodology: design, sample, tools, analysis.
- 5 · Main text: last chapters.
- Results: tables, graphs, statistics.
- Discussion: meaning, comparison with other studies.
- Summary and conclusion: recap, conclusion, recommendations.
- 6 · End matter. Bibliography in APA style, appendices (questionnaire, consent form, raw data) and an index if needed.
- 7 · Nutrition link. The methodology names tools such as 24-hour recall and anthropometry; the appendices hold their formats.
- 8 · Close in one line. A standard layout helps the reader find any part of the report quickly.
Scoring tip: Write the three part names as headings and list the items under each. A neat box chart earns easy marks.
