Matrices: addition, scalar and matrix multiplication sheet
Structured-answer frame

Two branches sold: Branch 1: 20 tea, 15 sugar, 30 rice; Branch 2: 25, 10, 40. Prices: Rs. 450, Rs. 280, Rs. 320. Use matrices to find each branch's revenue and the total.

How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.

  1. 1 · Write the quantity matrix. Q = [20 15 30; 25 10 40], order 2 × 3.
  2. 2 · Write the price matrix. P = [450; 280; 320], order 3 × 1.
  3. 3 · Check the product exists. Columns of Q = 3 = rows of P, so QP is 2 × 1.
  4. 4 · Multiply row by column.
    • Branch 1: 9,000 + 4,200 + 9,600 = 22,800
    • Branch 2: 11,250 + 2,800 + 12,800 = 26,850
  5. 5 · State and total. Branch 1 Rs. 22,800; Branch 2 Rs. 26,850; total Rs. 49,650.
