Discuss the advantages of computer networks to a business organisation.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in two lines. A computer network is two or more computers linked by media and devices (switches, routers) so they can share resources and communicate.
2 · Draw client-server. [Diagram: several clients linked through a switch to a central server, with a router to the internet]
3 · Sharing hardware and software. One printer, scanner or internet connection serves many users; software can be licensed for the whole network.
4 · Sharing data. All departments use one up-to-date customer and stock database on the server, avoiding duplicate copies.
5 · Communication and remote access. Email, chat and video meetings link staff; branches and home workers reach the same systems.
6 · Central backup, security and lower cost. The server is backed up and secured in one place, and shared resources cut costs.
7 · Sri Lankan business example. A bank's branches share one customer database over a WAN, and its app clients reach the bank's server over the internet.
8 · Close with a balance. Networks need setup cost and strong security, because a virus or server failure can affect everyone.
Scoring tip: Give each advantage a short business example, and end with one or two drawbacks for balance.
