Describe the types, determinants and benefits of physical activity.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Open in two lines. Physical activity is any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that uses energy (WHO). It includes work, housework, travel and sport.
2 · Types.
By domain: occupational, household, transport, leisure.
By kind: aerobic, muscle-strengthening, bone-strengthening, balance.
By intensity: light, moderate, vigorous.
3 · Measuring intensity. 1 MET = 3.5 mL O2/kg/min; kcal = MET × kg × hours. Light below 3, moderate 3-5.9, vigorous 6 and above.
4 · Draw the socio-ecological model. [Diagram: nested circles: individual → family and friends → community and environment → policy]
5 · Determinants at each level. Age, sex, motivation; family and gender norms; parks, safety, weather; school PE and national schemes.
6 · Benefits. Heart, metabolism, weight, bones, mind and lower disease risk; WHO 2020 dose of 150-300 minutes a week.
7 · Nutrition link. Activity energy from METs is added to the athlete's basic needs to set the diet.
8 · Close in one line. Regular activity at the right dose protects health at every age.
Scoring tip: Give the MET formula and one worked line; examiners reward a number in a theory answer.
