Rabbit: excretory, nervous and reproductive systems sheet4-mark answer frameDescribe the excretory system of the rabbit with a labelled diagram.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Open in one line. The rabbit removes nitrogen waste, mainly urea, through a pair of kidneys and their ducts.
- 2 · Draw and label. [Two kidneys with hilum, renal artery, renal vein, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra]
- 3 · Kidneys. Bean-shaped and dark red, on either side of the backbone; cortex and medulla; many nephrons filter the blood.
- 4 · Ducts. A ureter from each hilum → urinary bladder (stores urine) → urethra → outside.
- 5 · Real life. Human kidneys work the same way; drinking enough water helps them clear urea.
- 6 · Close in one line. So the kidneys keep the rabbit's blood clean and its water balanced.
Scoring tip: Draw the two kidneys with their notches facing inwards, and show the ureters entering the bladder from above.
