Human reproductive systems: male and female sheet7-mark answer frameDraw a labelled diagram of the male reproductive system and explain the function of each part.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Open. The male reproductive system makes sperms and the hormone testosterone, and carries sperms out of the body.
- 2 · Draw the diagram. [Diagram: scrotum, testis, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicle, ejaculatory duct, prostate gland, Cowper's gland, urinary bladder, urethra, penis]
- 3 · Testes.
- In the scrotum, a few degrees cooler than the body.
- Seminiferous tubules make sperms; Leydig cells make testosterone; Sertoli cells nourish sperms.
- 4 · Ducts.
- Epididymis: stores and matures sperms.
- Vas deferens: carries sperms upwards.
- Ejaculatory duct and urethra: carry semen out through the penis.
- 5 · Accessory glands. Seminal vesicles, prostate gland and Cowper's glands add fluid; sperms plus fluid make semen.
- 6 · Link to daily life. Clean, dry cotton innerwear and a diet with protein and iron support health at puberty.
- 7 · Close. So each part helps make, store or carry sperms.
Scoring tip: Trace the sperm path with arrows on the diagram. It shows the examiner you know the order of the ducts.
