How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · Introduce. Darwinism, the theory of natural selection, was given by Charles Darwin in On the Origin of Species (1859), after his voyage on HMS Beagle.
2 · Overproduction. Organisms produce more young than can survive, such as hundreds of seeds in one pomegranate.
3 · Struggle for existence.
Intraspecific: within one species
Interspecific: between species
Environmental: against heat, drought, floods
4 · Variations. No two individuals are alike; some variations are useful.
5 · Survival of the fittest. Individuals with useful variations survive and breed: natural selection.
6 · Origin of species. Useful variations add up over generations and form a new species.
7 · Link to daily life. Mosquitoes that resist a common spray survive and multiply, so the spray stops working.
8 · Close with the objections. Darwin could not explain how variations arise or how they are inherited.
Scoring tip: Use the five headings in order. A small flow chart of the five steps adds value.
