Explain the methods of animal breeding.

1. 1 · Define. Animal breeding improves livestock genetically for more milk, meat, eggs, wool or draught power.
2. 2 · Inbreeding. Mating related animals of one breed gives pure lines. Too much causes inbreeding depression.
3. 3 · Outbreeding.
   • Outcrossing: unrelated animals of the same breed
   • Crossbreeding: two breeds (Hisardale sheep)
   • Interspecific hybridisation: two species (mule)
4. 4 · Link to daily life. Crossbred cows on Tamil Nadu dairy farms give more milk than many local cows.
5. 5 · Close in one line. Breeding gives animals that produce more and stay healthy.
