Electric current, the ampere and circuit symbols sheet3-mark answer frameDefine electric current and its SI unit. A charge of 300 C flows through the element of a heater in 2 minutes. Find the current.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Define current. Electric current is the charge flowing through a cross-section of a conductor per unit time: i = Q/t.
- 2 · Define the ampere. 1 ampere is the current when 1 coulomb of charge flows in 1 second.
- 3 · Write what is given. Q = 300 C, t = 2 min = 120 s.
- 4 · Substitute. i = Q/t = 300 C ÷ 120 s.
- 5 · Answer with the unit. i = 2.5 A.
Scoring tip: Always change minutes to seconds before using i = Q/t.
