Knitting: terms, and knitted versus woven fabrics sheet5-mark answer frameCompare knitted and woven fabrics.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Open in two lines. Knitting forms fabric by interlooping yarn; weaving forms it by interlacing two sets of yarns at right angles.
- 2 · Draw both structures. [Sketch: interlocking knit loops showing a wale and a course; beside it, plain-weave interlacing]
- 3 · Construction.
- Knit: loops, can use one yarn, wales and courses.
- Woven: crossings, needs warp and weft.
- 4 · Performance.
- Knit: stretchy, wrinkle-resistant, comfortable; can ladder and sag.
- Woven: stable, holds shape; creases and frays.
- 5 · Daily-life link. Knits for babywear and patient wear; woven drill for chef coats and aprons that must hold shape.
- 6 · Close in one line. Knits give stretch and comfort; wovens give stability and crispness.
Scoring tip: A two-column table with six or more points scores fully; add the small loop sketch.
