Distinguish between the internet, an intranet and an extranet, with examples.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
1 · The internet. The public, worldwide network of networks; anyone can use it, e.g. a company's public website.
2 · An intranet. A private network using internet technology, for employees only, behind a firewall, e.g. HR forms and notices.
3 · An extranet. Part of the intranet opened to approved suppliers, dealers or customers by login, e.g. supplier ordering.
4 · Compare access and security. Internet: open to all. Intranet: staff only. Extranet: staff plus partners, so it needs stronger controls such as a VPN.
5 · Sri Lankan business example. An apparel exporter's intranet for staff leave forms and an extranet for overseas buyers to track orders.
