Decision making: types and process sheet10-mark answer frameExplain the decision-making process with a suitable example.
How to lay out the answer. Follow the frame, then write it in your own words.
- 1 · Open in two lines. Decision making is choosing one course of action from several alternatives. It is the heart of management.
- 2 · Draw the flow. [Diagram: six boxes in a line: recognize problem → seek alternatives → think through → choose → act → evaluate]
- 3 · Recognize and define the problem. State clearly what is to be decided. Example: the old kerosene stove is unsafe.
- 4 · Seek alternatives. List all possible choices: an LPG stove, an induction cooktop, repairing the old stove.
- 5 · Think through each alternative. Weigh each for cost, safety, fuel bill, power cuts and family values.
- 6 · Choose, act and evaluate.
- Choose the best alternative: a two-burner LPG stove.
- Act: buy it and learn to use it safely.
- Accept responsibility and evaluate: is it safe, faster and within budget?
- 7 · Nutrition link. A dietitian follows the same steps when choosing a diet and cooking method for a patient.
- 8 · Close in one line. Clear steps make decisions sound, and evaluation makes the next decision better.
Scoring tip: Carry one example through every step. It proves you understand the process, not just the list.
